About

A small UK hosting service run by Domain Farm Ltd, on a server that also carries our own websites.

Who runs it

Mints is a trading name of Domain Farm Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 13544286. The same people build websites under the name Webain and run a number of the company's own sites on this server.

That last part is the useful bit. We are a customer of our own hosting, which changes the incentives in a way no service level agreement does: when the server has a problem, our own sites are among the ones that break.

Small on purpose

There is no ambition here to be a large hosting company. A large one is a different business: it needs tiers, it needs a support structure, it needs to sell on price, and the customer ends up talking to somebody who cannot change anything.

What a small one can do is answer specifically, make a change when you ask for it, and say no when your site would be better somewhere else. That is the trade, and it will not suit everyone.

What is deliberately missing from this site

No uptime percentage. No backup schedule. No support response time. No storage or bandwidth figures. No customer count, no testimonials, and no claim about how long we have been doing this.

Those are the standard furniture of a hosting website and we have left them out, because each one is a promise to somebody who is paying and we have not yet established figures we would be willing to be held to. Publishing plausible ones would be easy and would make this site look more professional, which is exactly why it is worth not doing.

Two of them, backups and response times, matter enough that this site is weaker without them. They are the next things to settle, and when they are settled they will appear here as specific commitments rather than as adjectives.

Independence

We are not reselling someone else's hosting with our name on it, and we take no commission for sending work elsewhere. So when the answer to "should I host with you" is no, there is nothing stopping us saying it.
